Whole Hip Joint Finite Element (FE) Modeling

From 2013-2014, graduate student Jeff Pyle (ME) generated a whole hip joint FE model from Computed Tomography (CT) scans downloaded from the Musculoskeletal Research Lab (Director Dr. Weiss, University of Utah). A solid model of the hip joint was created from 3,795 CT images and a finite element mesh was created (see figure above) for use in the FE solver ABAQUS. Jeff used this FE model to predict cartilage tissue loading during the stance phase of gait.
